John Mellencamp has NOT endorsed Obama

Contrary to what the heaving masses think, it was announced today that John Mellencamp has indeed NOT endorsed Barack Obama for president. He has chosen not to endorse another candidate beyond his initial one of Edwards.

He is playing an Obama rally tonight and I know Obama supporters were waiting with baited breath for him to demand Hillary stop using his songs. It won't be happening.

It was just announced today that Mellencamp will perform on Saturday at rally for the New York Democrat in Indianapolis.

Read all about it at The Swamp. So much for that endorsement, huh?

This diary made me laugh.  How can I go on knowing that the Obama camp does not have exclusive rights to "This is Our Country"?

Heaving Masses?

John Mellencamp?

Besides I prefer something a little more contemporary, like Wilco or Dave Matthews...

Both for Obama, BTW?

Do you think Dave's fan base could match the Elton John fundraiser?

Just curious. I think they could, btu it would have to be lower prices/bigger venue than RCMH.

Re: THANK YOU FOR CLEARING THAT UP!!!! (2.00 / 1)

That isn't the point, Bob, and you know it. Hell, even Todd mused about the Mellencamp supposed endorsement on the FP.

People have assumed because he was playing for Obama tonight that he endorsed him and Hillary would be forced to stop using his music.

It seems a little silly to make fun of Mellencamp now after some Obama supporters on this very blog where so breathlessly touting Springsteen's endorsement.

Re: What? (none / 0)

I don't find it funny as in, "americanincanada is stupid."

I really don't know how else to point this out to you. I said I'm not laughing at AIC.

Let's recap:
Bob Johnson wrote that he found it funny that AIC had to write a diary about this. AIC said that this is hardly the most useless diary posted here. I commented that although I found it funny, I wasn't laughing at the diarist but rather the fact that all of us are so interested in whom John Mellencamp endorses. (And again, I'm not excluding myself or putting myself above the fray.)

I'm really not sure how you're reading this to see it as an insult to AIC. I may post a lot of sarcastic comments, but I don't name-call or insult. I don't care about the rating itself--I'll live--but it bothers me when it's over a simple misunderstanding.

Re: What? (none / 0)

I'll switch my rating to a "1". Sarcastic or not, there's no reason for "[diarist name] is stupid". Next time, make your point without the diarist's name.

Re: Who gives a crap? (none / 0)

I appreciate that you commented about why you were rating me, but I think you misunderstood what I wrote.

I specifically said I wasn't laughing at the diarist. What I found funny about the diary and the comments was the fact that all of us--myself included--are so caught up with this race that we're arguing about minutiae like John Mellencamp's endorsement. It's one of those "take a step back and realize how funny this all is" type of comments.

With all due respect, I'd appreciate it if you would re-consider the rating.

Saw him on the tour where he played Seattle 3 days after being on the cover of both Newsweek and Time, he played non-stop for almost two hours....

Still in my top ten rock shows of all time...

And, isn't it funny, we can want to rip each others eyes out about Obama vs Clinton, but I bet we have more in common with all of us here and at Daily Orange then 99.9999% of the Republics out there....

Doesn't suprise me, he really liked Edwards.

Infact, he did not originally endorse Edwards 4 years ago when Edwards started using his song 'Small Town'.  After they met however, he found they had a lot in common, and they had been friends ever since.

Also a point to remember is, think of all the musicians on our side...and I mean THE DEMOCRATIC SIDE....

Then think about the Republic music bunch?

Ted Nugent, a bunch of country guys that right songs about bombing Iran...

and Brittney Spears?

Well, I guess I'm on the correct side of the isle after all?

Lines were short in Delco in late morning/early afternoon, reports the Daily News' roving reporter there. But the poll workers at the Delaware County Voting Machine Storage facility in Chester (yes, it's a polling place too) said the big problem has been independents showing up to vote and being turned away.

....

11:45 a.m.

At the True Jesus Church on Woodland Avenue in Springfield Township, Delaware County (Seventh Ward, First Precinct), Janet O'Connell, the judge of elections, said about 75 voters have shown up.
"I wouldn't say it is heavier than usual," she said.

I love Springsteen, grew up to Mellencamp, but Reznor...  now that is an endorsement that I would pay attention to.  Does anyone remember how he was disinvited from playing the MTV music awards?  Wasn't it because he refused to play "The Hand that Feeds" without showing a massive picture of Bush behind him?  Oh, and if you know the song, then you know that's not a compliment.

Re: John Mellencamp has NOT endorsed Obama (none / 0)

Yes I saw the last tour 3 times.  LOL  He is coming to my area again this summer.  I am beside myself with excitement.

The song on Year Zero is called Capital G:

I pushed the button and elected him to office and a
He pushed the button and he dropped the bomb
You pushed the button and could watch in on the television
Those motherfuckers didn't last too long

I'm sick of hearing about the have and have not's
Have some personal accountability
The biggest problem with the way that we are doing things is
The more we let you have the less that I'll be keeping for me

Well I use to stand for something
Well I'm on my hands and knees
Turning in my god for this one
and he signs his name with a capital G

Don't give a shit about the temperature in Guatemala
Don't really see what all the fuss is about
Ain't gonna worry about no future generations
And I'm sure somebody's gonna figure it out

Don't try to tell me that some power can corrupt a person
You hadn't had enough to know what its like
Your only angry cause you wish you were in my position
Now nod your head cause you know that I'm right..alright!

Well I use to stand for something
But forgot what that could be
Theres a lot of me inside you
Maybe your afraid to see

Well I use to stand for something
Well I'm on my hands and knees
Turning in my god for this one
and he signs his name with a capital G
